| Birthplace of
Francois I, the town of Cognac
is just 5 kilometers away with
a fascinating history dating
back to Roman times. The town
is, of course, famous for the
production of the liquor of
that name and many of the cognac
houses own the chateaux in the
area, and offer tours and tastings
– which are a must! |

| Cognac offers
a good choice of bars and restaurants
as do the nearby towns of Angouleme
and Saintes. You will not be
short of memorable dining experiences!

River Charente is an obvious
attraction, but other attractions
in the area include a superb

drive away and an hour’s
drive south west through the
vineyards will bring you to
the cosmopolitan city of Bordeaux
with its world acclaimed wine
industry and all the facilities
of one of the largest cities
in France. An hour’s drive
north west is the coastal town
of La Rochelle, well known for
its water based recreation,
the same distance north east
is historical Poitiers, and
